1、Sometimes it can feel difficult to push forward, meeting the demands of the day, when we see the events of the world unfolding around us, and it seems impossible to make a difference. It may seem impossible, but we must remember anything is possible, given the proper influence. Although we might feel we cannot effect change on a global scale, we should remember we can make an impact on an individual level, and this could eventually allow us to help change the world.Once we realize we are truly only capable of changing ourselves and our responses to things which affect our lives, it becomes easier to accomplish these seemingly impossible tasks. It is simply a matter of perspective.As we determine our responses to events occurring around us, we similarly determine who we are, as our responses to these events help to shape who we are. To summarize Frankl, the things which happen to us do not define who we are; we are really defined by our responses to these occurrences. We actually choose to be led by the event, or we choose not to be led by the event.It appears to be in our nature to resist change, however, as we constantly seek the path of least resistance while striving to obtain our daily needs, avoiding as much stress as possible. We seek to avoid change, as it often presents some element of work. Without stress, however, an organism has no need to change, and therefore faces no true need to evolve. When our daily needs are met without stress, we remain the same, and are unable to grow beyond who we already are.Yet change will be thrust upon us despite our attempts to avoid its influence. We will be required to respond to the stressor in some way, and it is our response to this impetus which will shape the new version of ourselves, rather than the event itself. In order to overcome some new stressor we adapt to solve the problem, and in doing so, we develop further, experiencing growth.Everyone experiences events in their life which will be hard to face, and often we would rather avoid their occurrence if possible; the loss of a loved one, or a traumatic experience…none are exempt from these trials occurring in life. But life is nothing if not a series of events, both good and bad, which we encounter, experience, and these events all provide the opportunity for growth and development. Our responses to these events are the result of our own path through life, and the knowledge we have gained.It is never easy to avoid the rush of emotions associated with events forcing adaptation, but it can be done. We grieve, respond, and then we move on. Whether we move forward or not depends upon our response to the event, not the event itself. It is not what happens to us in life which defines us…it is how we respond to the event which defines who we choose to be.。
